Andora and Dad: model sheets

0:48

What you'll see

The model sheet an animation studio pins above every desk, for Andora and then for Dad: each turning front, three-quarter, side and back on height guides, with a ruler counting how many heads tall they are (Andora 1.9, Dad 2.29), ten expressions, every colour they are painted in, and who they are: what they want, their flaw, their voice and their signature items. Each sheet is drawn in the clean cartoon, then in three other styles (comic book, watercolour and clay for Andora; ink and wash, soft 3D and pencil for Dad), then once more with every shade worked out by the engine's own colour rules instead of picked by eye, which looks almost the same. The figures breathe and blink.

How it was made

Drawn by the studio's own character engine from one file per character that holds who they are and nothing about how a style draws them. The engine builds each style's drawing from that file, so changing the style never touches the character, and the colours picked by eye for a style are kept with it. No AI made any picture.

Good for

Every series and every character the studio makes: the sheet is drawn from the character's file, so it is right the moment the character is, in whatever style the film uses.
